Now, here's his exclusive interview with UltimateHuman.Org:

What originally inspired you to get into medicine?

I originally went into medicine because I wanted to feel respected. I wanted the title of an "MD" to hide this not-enoughness that I had. So, I became an interventional radiologist, or a minimally invasive surgeon.

And it wasn't until I got diseased myself — overweight, diabetic, high blood pressure, on several prescription medications — that I realized I didn't have the tools to become healthy.

After going through that experience myself, I really wanted to dive in deep into epigenetics, nutrition, and wellness, so that I could not only reverse my disease, but give other people the tools to do that themselves.

What’s your favorite part about working in health?

My favorite part about being in the healthcare space is the person that I am becoming.

As I learn more about health, wellness, and becoming the best version of myself...

I get to take that and become a better father, a better partner, a better son, a better servant to the world.

That's the part I'm most proud of — that I just show up as a better version of myself, each and every day, and share that with people that I love.

What’s something new in health/wellness you wish more people knew about?

Something new and exciting in the healthcare space is the science of epigenetics. I wish more people knew about it.

What it tells us is how we live our life — our thoughts, our emotions, how we interact with people, our sense of purpose — [these things] are actually medicine that speak to our cells at the molecular level.

If more people could understand that HOW they live their life IS medicine, that's one of the most profound things I'd love to share. The choices that we bring to every single moment, every single interaction, is actually medicine.

I want more people to embrace that because they, or you, are your best medicine.

If you could wave a magic wand and fix something about the modern-day healthcare system, what would it be?

If I could wave a magic wand and fix something in healthcare today, it will be to remove the symptom centric-approach that modern medicine has.

A symptom — whether it be a headache, brain fog, acid reflux, being overweight, joint pain — whatever the symptom is, modern medicine says there's a pill or surgery for it.

They often fail to actually address the root cause the problem.

Could it be how we live our life? That we are sending messages to our DNA and ourselves that is actually creating some of those symptoms?

Because if we could address our:

  • Sleep

  • Nutrition

  • Movement

  • Thoughts

  • Mindset

  • Emotions

  • Connection with other people

  • Sense of purpose

...Those are all medicines. Those are all energies we're actually getting to our DNA.

Are we digging into those things?

So if I were to fix healthcare today, I would make it more human-centric, rather than symptom centric.

What are you most excited about in the future of health?

What I'm most excited about the health and wellness space is that in the future, people will become their own healers.

Don't get me wrong — I'm super excited about stem cells, peptides, exosomes, and diagnostic testing, like testing our entire genome. I'm excited about all the regenerative medicine that we have. All these technologies, which I call "the science of longevity" aims to push the human lifespan further than we ever thought possible.

But if we look around the world where people actually live the longest, Dan Buettner calls these the "blue zones." They [originally] didn't have access to all these science or advances; it's just how they lived their lives. It's who they chose to be.

And as we begin to embrace that how we live our life is medicine, I hope that people can understand that they have the power — with every choice they make and action they take in each moment — to change the message they give to their DNA.

So, I'm super excited about the future of medicine because people will become more empowered with their own health, take health into their own hands to become their own healers, and realize that they are their best medicine.

Is there anything else you want to add? A message you want to share?

One of the most powerful medicines we have is: Creating a beautiful masterpiece of a life.

When you look at how diamonds are formed, they come from carbon deposits, made of nothing, but they share 3 qualities:

Intense Pressure, Heat, and Time.

Those 3 ingredients can turn these carbon deposits into a diamond. And it's a great analogy of creating a beautiful masterpiece of a life:

Yes, there will be pressure. There will be hurts, pains. There'll be relationship losses, job losses.

But what if that pressure is just a gift from the universe, so that we can create our diamond?

Because if we bring the heat — which is our persistent pursuit of our passion and our purpose — if we bring that heat... Really, it's just a matter of time before we create that diamond for ourself.

So remember, create a beautiful masterpiece for a life. That is the art of living.

And that's probably one of the best medicines you could do for yourself, and for humanity.
